Freelance Graphic Operator

I currently work at the Public Broadcasting Services Creativity Hub. I handle the design and implementation of graphics created using Adobe Photoshop and After Effects for live programmes and recorded programmes. These programmes vary from local News to FIFA World Cup programmes.

Cameraperson

Handling of a professional TV camera, and providing the director with good original shots during recorded and live programmes from the studio and outside.

Transmission Officer

Taking care that everything has to be punctual and on time, based on a pre-planned schedule so that the television programmes flow as smooth as possible and make sure that all adverts go on air.

Community Radio Coordinator/Technician

My role was that of creating and maintaining a sustainable environment for young enthusiasts to develop their radio DJing skills. Also during this period I was responsible for the radio license and the maintenance of any technical problem within the studio. The radio was operable one month to cover the traditional "festa" in Ghaxaq and one month in December for Christmas. This was all done on a voluntary basis

Game Development

This project was done for a Game Development Challenge organised by St. Martin's Institue of Higher Education. For me this was the second time participating in this challenge and I asked the artist from the previous year to join us. Tiki Totem Runner is a game designed by 4 students, including me. The development together with all the testing and the presentation features had to be done in 6 months. I was the main developer, coding the main mechanics and sound designer for the game. I also lead the team to take decisions all together and keeping the focus on improving the game and experience. We managed to place third with Tiki Totem Runner in the Game Development Challenge 3 and won the award for Best Audio.

The game has it's own facebook page where in the close future, after we finish our last year at the university, we introduce new stuff and maybe upgrade some concepts that we didn't manage to finish in the GameDev Challenge.

Also the game has been featured in various events like the PixieWorkshop where the whole team shared his experience in creating this game. The game was also featured in a television programme where I was asked, on behalf of the whole team, to share my experiences in creating this game. Some of these events' photos are shown below.

Game Development

This project was done for a Game Development Challenge organised by St. Martin's Institue of Higher Education. This was the first time participating in this challenge and we had a crash course on how to use Unity3D. Escape from Concrete Jungle is a game designed by 5 students, including me. The development together with all the testing and the presentation features had to be done in 6 months. I was the main developer, coding the main mechanics of the game and looked up for some sounds for the game. I also lead the team to take decisions all together and keeping the focus on improving the game and experience. We managed to place fifth with Escape from Concrete Jungle in the Game Development Challenge 2 and for us having used Unity3D for the first we were all satisfied.

Game Development

This project was done for a Global Game Jam 2014 organised across the globe and locally managed by the University of Malta. For me this was another opportunity to create another game using Unity3D. I asked 2 friends from the Tiki Totem Runner to do this experience and 2 other friends. The theme for that year was "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are". In the end the team that designed Friend Or Foe was composed of 7 people all having their area of expertise. I was the supporting developer, coding some of the main mechanics and some game features of the game. I also helped in the testing of the game.

The game has it's own website as this was a prerequisite for the Global Game Jam.

PS - The game is designed to be a local multi-player, since this was one diversifier we opted for. Therefore the game works with joysticks only, this is because we didn't have time to implement this game for keyboard use.

Television

This section of television graphics incorporates graphics that have been designed by other designers and I either take their design and implement it using the software used by the Public Broadcasting Services, or just use the files to use them for the programme. These television programmes vary from local productions to global productions.

Examples of local productions are the News, Times Talk, Poppins.

Examples of global productions are the FIFA World Cup 2014, UEFA Champions League 2014/2015 Highlights, UEFA Europa League 2014/2015 Highlights and part of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest that was held in Malta.

Television

This section of television graphics incorporates graphics that have been designed by myself and implemented them using the software used by the Public Broadcasting Services. These television programmes were mostly local productions.

Examples of these local productions are the documentary about the Anniversary of Malta joining the European Union, The Canonisation of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXXII, Elections for the Members of the European Parliament and the Carnival 2014.

This video shows the jingle I created from scratch for the documentary of the Anniversary of Malta joining the European Union.

Video Production

This was a project between St. Martin's Institue of Higher Education and the Birmingham Ormiston Academy. Both schools had students which teamed up in two teams to create a video advert for the Malta Tourism Authority. The students from St. Martin's had the role to provide the english students from BOA to familiarize themselves with Malta and any other help to make a better product. Having had three years experience in filming and some production I offered many tips to the students of BOA, as they shared there experience with me too. In the end the two teams managed to create five videos which were presented to the Malta Tourism Authority. Also this project was a success, so much that it was done for a second year.

This is the video that was presented as the final product from the team I was part of.

Video Production

These were the first two videos I ever produced and published on YouTube. At the time I didn't have any experience and the process was all self-taught.

SKy was a video produced to introduce the band during the Battle of the Bands organised by St. Aloysius College. The storyline was created together with the band and finally edited using Adobe Premier.

ACTS was a video produced to promote this one year experience where we go around schools in Malta announcing Christ to them. This video was created using Adobe After Effects.

Software Development

This was the Software Project I did for my National Diploma in Computing at the Malta College of Art, Computing and Technology. The project was developed using C# with an SQL Server Database. The system also had a web interface which made it possible to be accessed online.

This is the demonstration video for the Radio Automation System presented with the project.

Hobby

Photography for me is a hobby which I do with a passion. I love taking photos of various subjects mostly nature, architecture and major events. My current gear includes a Canon 60D together with a TAMRON 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 Aspherical lense, Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 and a Canon EF II 75-300 mm f/4.0-5.6
